Personal Attention

We all know that the idea of self-care can take on many meanings. Whether it’s paying more attention to eating well and working out, creating a new nighttime ritual, or even just having a quiet afternoon to yourself, incorporating cannabis into your exercise, relaxation and beauty/grooming practices can make moments of self-care that much better.

For example, if you’re looking to amp up your evening routine, anecdotal – and some scientific – evidence suggests that the topical application of CBD can treat inflammation, the aging process, or redness. And creating your own infused lotion, balm or salve is a lot simpler than it may seem; the process is very similar to making edibles. Just switch out the olive oil or butter for something like coconut oil (which is great to use for homemade topicals because it works as a natural antibacterial and hydrating agent, without adding extra grease to your skin).

Post-workout Relief

If high-intensity workouts are more your speed, infused coconut oil can act as a balm to soothe your overworked and sore muscles. When applied topically, CBD and THC have been known to aid in reducing localized pain and inflammation. These properties help relax the muscles and joints that were strained at the gym, allowing you to get back to your full mobility. Coconut oil will work well for this homemade balm because it thickens at room temperature, making it a great item to toss in a gym bag. If you want the thickness of pure coconut oil but would like to increase the fluidity of your infused concoction, try mixing it with shea or cocoa butter. Keep in mind that no matter the mix, your infused creation will still be quite thick so avoid using a pump container.

Quiet Time

Sometimes self-care comes in the form of relaxing in front of the TV or taking an extended afternoon nap to re-energize your body and mind. If this sounds up your alley (or something you aspire to accomplish more often), consider how an indica-dominant strain could improve the vibe. The method of consumption is up to you, but these types of strain have been said to provide body calming effects, allowing you to zone out and banish FOMO (and perhaps even increase JOMO). Try listening to some music, too; it will allow your mind to wander, putting you into a state of gentle rest and relaxation.

Healthy Food Made Better

A large part of treating your body right is about the food you put in it. Granted, endlessly eating greens might not seem very exciting, and ending a stressful day at work with a spinach salad can be a bit uninspiring. An infused olive oil, however, can be used to make your signature salad dressing a bit more elevated. If you’re looking to unwind and get a good night’s sleep in preparation for the next morning, an indica-dominant strain infused into your dressing can put your body in gear for a proper turn down. And addressing aches and pains, including headaches that come with long hours in front of a computer, could be done with a dressing infused with a strain high in CBD.

While there’s still much to study in terms of how cannabis can improve our daily lives, these simple steps are a good start.
